"UK Calendar Structure: Understanding Our School Year"
We follow the UK calendar structure in order to align our teaching and curriculum coverage with the Assessment Programmes at the end of Primary Years (Year 6) and the IGCSE and A Level Examinations in Years 10, 11 and Sixth Form. This means that our year runs through from September until June.
We are also very aware that planning and paying for holidays can be very difficult when work commitments and inflated travel and hotel costs are complicated further by the times when schools choose to close.
We have therefore created a calendar to help parents and children gain a number of key advantages in terms of learning, relaxation and planning family trips away from home:
Our digital teaching model means that live lessons are available across seven timezones every school day, making it possible for children to keep up with their learning when away from home, anywhere within these zones.
Our Lesson Library provides additional flexibility if emergencies and/or unavoidable circumstances mean that children cannot always be present ‘live’ for some lessons each year, but can catch up on what they missed at a suitable time.
Our combination of 33 Teaching Weeks and 2 Independent Study Weeks creates space for families around the traditional UK school holidays at Christmas and Easter1.
Students applying from CBSE or other boards can opt to commence their learning in April.
Given all of the above, we are delighted to give parents and families these added benefits through the design of our School Year, knowing that our UK curriculum programme fits perfectly into a 35-week year.
The dates for the Academic Year 2024-2025 are therefore as follows:
