Cambridge International Curriculum

Our Curriculum is built upon the world-renowned scheme created by Cambridge Assessment International Education, a Department within the University of Cambridge, which takes children from age 7 through to IGCSE and A Levels.

By being affiliated as partners with Cambridge International, we are able to deliver their full Curriculum and enter children for their first-class suite of UK qualifications.

The video explains this further.

The Cambridge Pathways are aligned with the National Curriculum for England, but can be complemented with broader curriculum materials and additional digital learning resources. TGBS is therefore able to integrate well-established e-learning tools to boost reading, maths, and science in addition to the standard Cambridge International Curriculum.

Digital Technologies1 bring together aspects of IT, coding, robotics, computing, Virtual Reality and digital innovation in order to help immerse our students in the world of tomorrow.

The curriculum in the first Phase builds upon children’s prior learning, with a great emphasis upon the five core areas of literacy, numeracy, creative expression, and the principles of science and digital technology.

All lessons are taught exclusively in English and parents will have to be sure that their children are already competent in written and spoken English before they enrol. We will expect to progress their English significantly during their time with us, but we cannot teach them English if they have no grounding in the language when they join us.

Naturally, a good grasp of English for a child of their age will also be vital if they are going to be able to understand what is being taught in all of their other lessons too.

All students are aiming to achieve a secure knowledge of all subjects by the end of the first Phase (in Year 6) when a formal assessment in all subjects will be taken to assure parents that their child is ready to move into the Lower Secondary Phase (Year 7).

From Year 7 onwards, the level of challenge in lessons increases through the second Phase and into the IGCSE Phase (Years 9-11). By the end of that Phase, students will take Cambridge Board Examinations in up to 9 IGCSE examinations from the following list:

English, English Literature, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Combined Science, Global Perspectives, Digital Technology, History and Geography.

A Level Subject Choices will be considered and published before the commencement of Year 10, giving students a clear focus for the standards which they will need to achieve in their IGCSEs if those A Level ambitions are to be realised.

In Years 12 and 13, they will reduce the number of subjects to 3 or 4, but will still be provided with a full Study Programme for a 25-lesson week.

To support this development in their thinking, with a career and potential University pathways ahead of them, we provide a Programme of Career Awareness and Planning which starts with general considerations in Years 3-6 and encourages a deeper focus from Year 7 onwards.

Alongside this, we deliver lessons which are geared towards Good Parenting, Household Management and Voluntary Service.
