Keeping children safe online is the job of the British Global School
At school, we can manage the resources they use, prevent them accessing material which is harmful, and teach them about the benefits and danger of connecting with people online. We can help them make good decisions about what they read and who they reach out to; we can also encourage them to be wise when other people reach out to them. This is not easy work, but it must be done, and it must be done well.
Of course, when they are not online with TGBS, it is those who live with them at home who need to continue this work. We need parents to work with us in the business of keeping your children safe, talking with them about their online activity, and helping them to know what danger signs look like when they arise. This is not easy work either, but it also needs to be done well
TGBS operates in line with the principles outlined in the UK Department for Education’s key document “Keeping Children Safe in Education” (KCSIE) which covers a wide range of measures relating to safeguarding, including online safety, digital privacy and the safe recruitment of teachers.
In the light of all the above, TGBS will hold regular engagement sessions for parents during the Academic Year to support, inform and advise you on how to remain vigilant in these matters.
Keeping and handling the data we hold on children, parents and staff in a safe manner vitally important in order for TGBS to be worthy of our parents’ trust.
At school, we adhere to the UK protocols concerning GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) so that, among other things, you know
We also protect the identity and images of our children by ensuring that no photographs of our students are published in the public-facing parts of our website or on our social media platforms. All of the images on the website are taken from stock photography libraries and do not include any of our students.
Parents and students have areas which can be accessed using password protection, and images of students may be available there, subject to parents’ written permission. This is also true of the Lesson Library, in which lessons can only be accessed by password and cannot be downloaded.
Communications between school and home, and between students, must be transparent at all times.
All of these communications are conducted using the TGBS email system and the TGBS video-conferencing platform, both of which have automatic logging and recording. The exchange of personal email addresses, mobile phone numbers, or other means of communication is strictly forbidden. Any contact between students outside of the TGBS email and video systems must be arranged with the knowledge and permission of both sets of parents. TGBS will facilitate such parent-to-parent contact but will never share a parent’s contact details without their express written permission.
Failure to adhere to these requirements by a child or parent will be investigated as a matter of urgency, and may lead to the child and all of their siblings being immediately removed from the school.
Failure to adhere to these requirements by a member of staff will be investigated as a matter of urgency, and may lead to that member of staff being immediately dismissed without notice.
The safety of our children is our highest priority and we will always maintain the most stringent of sanctions in order to preserve their safety. This includes informing the relevant public authorities if we believe that any criminal offence may have been committed.
